Before you start building you need to make sure you meet all the site requirements. Preparing your site well to begin with means a much safer, more productive working environment. It also minimizes risk with the health and safety certification.

Proper surveying 

 If your building block of land is not clearly identified by survey pegs, you cannot be certain that you are building on the correct block or setting the home out in the right location. 

A surveyor will survey your block for a reasonable cost, better to be safe than sorry. The local council will normally request that the block has at least 2 survey pegs, before they will release the plans.

Connection to services 

You may apply direct to the local authority for connection of water; however, you will need a tradesman to make application for the following: 

• Electrical Supply 

• Sewerage Main 

• Septic Tank requirements

Signage 

In accordance with requirement set down by local council authorities and the builders registration board, every building site must display an on-site sign in a prominent position. 

This Sign Must display. 

• Owner builders permit number 

• Lot number 

• Owner Name

In addition, a safety sign will need to be erected.

Construction Check List 

• Site contours should be checked and site cuts be shown on plans. 

• Storage areas for building materials. 

• All vegetation to be removed from building area. 

• Builders profiles placed in accurate location for footings. 

• Local Authorities will require a sanitary closet or portable toilet – this can be hired from a hire center. 

• Access to site for concrete trucks etc. 

• Power supply, for initial Electricity into your site by way of Temporary builder’s pole or generator hire. 

• Water supply required for drainage and rough-in for trades.
