Chapter 11.

DOORS & FITTINGS

 “Separate the rooms”

Doors and fittings

With the linings finished you can now add the doors to separate the rooms and the fittings.

When you’re doing your research on installing doors, whether you choose to DIY or to engage the services of a professional, it’s important to know what to look for. Installing a door is rarely as simple as fixing a door into the doorway. For example, did you know that you need to recess the hinges to ensure that your door fits into its designated space? Or that your measurements must be so exact that your door is fit in a way that effectively insulates your room while still having enough clearance to prevent it from scraping and scratching the floor?

If you decide to do it yourself, make sure you have the necessary measuring, cutting, drilling and fastening tools required to do the job correctly.

If you choose to go with a professional, make sure you get value for your money. As with all skilled work, picking the cheapest option often ends up costing more in the long run when one is burdened with having to redo most of the shoddy work. Make sure you choose an installer that is reputable with the right combination of skill, experience, knowledge and the other ingredients for successful installation.

Door Fittings

Fitting a door handle may seem like an unimportant job but getting it right can make a huge difference. It isn't a difficult job once you know how.

Installing a door handle is a relatively easy DIY project.  Bunnings have a step-by-step guide which shows you how to make sure the handles are at the right height, how to safely drill holes in the door and how to chisel out the recesses so that the door's hardware sits flush.
